  • Development programmes implemented by Corporation
    1. Supply of Breedable Rams & Bucks
  1. A corporation is maintaining sheep breeds Deccani & strain of Deccani Sheep known as Sangamneri & Madgyal a meat sheep as well as goat breeds like Osmanabadi. Rams & Bucks produced from them are made available to the breeders under various government schemes such as D.R.D.A., Child & Women Development Schemes etc. as well as private breeders for improvement of local sheep & goats.

    Machine Shearing Programme

  3. The Corporation is propagating machine shearing of the sheep in the State for which response is increasing day by day. At Present Corporation has got seven shearing machines. The Corporation is providing machine-shearing facilities to the sheep breeders by charging nominal of fee Rs. 1.50 per sheep. Every year around 10. 000 sheep being shorn.
  4. Sheep & Goat Management Training

  5. The Corporation is implementing management training on Sheep & Goat at nine Sheep & Goat Development Farms & Head Office. This training programme is of five days duration with a nominal fee Rs. 350/- per trainee at the farms & Rs. 500/- per trainee at the head office, Pune, which is a three-day programme. Every year around 1500 farmers/beneficiaries are being trained in Corporation.
  6. Wool Weaving Training Programme

  7. Considering market trend & preferences to the blankets, the Corporation has established wool weaving centres at Pune, Ranjani, Dist. Sangli, Padegaon, Aurangabad, Mukhed, Dist. Nanded, where training is organized with the help of government organization such as Central Wool Development Board, District Rural Development Agencies etc.
  8. Woolen Expo - Pune

  9. Corporation has been organizing Woolen Expo at Pune from 2004 with the finance from Central Wool Development Board, Jodhpur. The motto of the Woolen Expo is to promote the sale of woollen goods and create the market for woollen artisans.
    The Objectives of the scheme are as under-
    1. To promote the sale of woollen products
    2. To increase awareness in favor of local woolen products
    3. To expose weavers/manufacturers to the new woolen markets
    4. To launch new wool products / designs for trial & promotion

    The aim of the Woolen Expo is to expose woolen products to new markets and to ensure better price for the products made in the rural area.
    For the current year the Corporation has organized Woolen Expo 2009 at Pune from 14.12.2009 to 18.12.2009.

Ongoing schemes of the Corporation

    Shepherds’ Insurance Scheme
  1. In Maharashtra State Sheep rearing is done by the nomadic way for want of water & fodder. During their migration, they face many problems like the outbreak of various diseases, attack of wild animals, natural calamities like flooding, droughts etc. There is no other scheme to give financial protection to the shepherds; hence Central Wool Development Board has introduced the Shepherds’ Insurance Scheme in our State with the help of Life Insurance Corporation of India.

    Annual Premium is Rs. 330/- for every member.
    Out of the annual premium of Rs. 330/--

    1. Each member shall contribute a sum of Rs. 80/- per annum as premium
    2. The Central Wool Development Board will contribute Rs. 150/- per annum per member
    3. LIC of India will contribute Rs. 100/- per annum per member

    Benefits of death prior to Terminal Date:

    Upon the death of an Insured member whilst he is insured prior to a terminal date, the sum assured of Rs. 60, 000/- shall become payable to the Nodal Agency for the benefits of the beneficiary of the Insured member.
    In case of death or partial/total permanent disability due to accident the following benefits shall become payable

    1. On death- Rs. 1, 50, 000/-
    2. Permanent total disability- Rs. 1, 50, 000/-
    3. Loss of eye/limb- Rs. 75, 000/-

    Uptil now 4562 shepherds were benefited under this Scheme. For the current year it is proposed to insure around 5000 shepherds under this programme.

    Sheep Insurance Scheme

  2. Sheep rearing is done nomadically where shepherds & sheep both are facing natural calamities, attacks of wild animals, outbreaks of infectious diseases hence the shepherds have incurred the financial losses as there is no insurance coverage for sheep. Hence, Corporation is implementing Sheep Insurance Scheme with the finance from Central Wool Development Board, Jodhpur. Under this scheme, it is proposed to cover 1,00,000 sheep. Initially, Corporation is intending to implement Sheep Insurance Scheme in district Sangli & Solapur.
  3. Integrated Wool Improvement Programme, Sangli

  4. Purpose of the scheme is to improve the wool production and wool quality, for the two basic factors- one, that the stock, health and care of the sheep determines the quality & quantity of wool and two, that, the wool producer will be motivated to invest effort into quality only if the system of marketing rewards quality.

    Programme Components involve Breed improvement, Health & Veterinary Care of Sheep, Training in the above aspects to the wool producers, Access to Veterinary Care & better rams, Nutritional Supplementation
    Proper shearing of wool, Primary washing & grading of wool by the wool producer, Market literacy of the sheep rearer., Quality linked pricing & marketing systems.

    CWDB sanctioned the programme & release of Rs. 35.50 lakhs. Under this programme 1, 00, 000
    Sheep are being covered for breed improvement and assistance is also provided for health care, Product Development, Marketing.
