Tissue culture Sheep Pox Vaccine(Living)
- Definition:-
- It is a live attenuated freeze-dried vaccine prepared by growing attenuated Sheep pox virus in lamb kidney/thyroid cell culture.
- It is used in sheep only, for protection against Sheep Pox. It can be used both for clean vaccination and in face of an outbreak.
- Primary Vaccination:- 5 to 7 days of age.
- Booster vaccination:- 5th week of age.
- 0.5 ml. of reconstituted vaccine by subcutaneous route on the external aspect about an inch from the tip of the ear. Care should be taken to avoid vaccine going into blood vessels.
- A nodular thickening develops at the site of vaccination within a week and persists for a long time. In, few cases nodules may break leading into ulceration which heal with dressing by use of boro-glycerine.
- It lasts for one year.
- Transport of vaccine on ice is essential to maintain cold chain.
- Store in freezing chamber of the refrigerator.
- Reconstitute carefully in a chilled diluent, and mix well before administration.
- Use within 2 hours after reconstitution. Keep on ice.
- Do not apply Tr. iodine or spirit while vaccination.
- Use sterile syringes and needles.
- Shake the bottle every time when the vaccine is drawn.

- At -150 C to -200 C..............One year from the date of manufacture.
- At 00 C to 40 C ......................One month.
- Ampoule / vial containing 25/50/100 doses. Diluent - Aluminium hydroxide gel 100 ml.vial.
- The contents of each ampoule/vial are reconstituted in chilled diluent supplied by this institute. The 100 dose ampoule is mixed in 50 ml. of diluent and shaken vigorously for 1 to 2 minutes and allowed to stand for 15 to 20 minutes in refrigerator or on ice. This will allow the virus to adsorb in a diluent. This mixture is to be used within two hours of reconstitution.
