Enterotoxaemia Vaccine-Type C and D

    Definition:-
  • The vaccine is a culture of highly toxigenic strains of Clostridium perforin genes type C and D prepared in double strength and then combined in such proportion that it would invoke an adequate antitoxic response in vaccinated animals against each antigen incorporated in the vaccine.
  • Use:-

  • The vaccine may be used in sheep and goats or in large animals for protection against Enterotoxaemia. In Maharashtra, it is mainly used in large animals in Konkan tract.
  • Doses and Administration:-

  • Sheep and Goats
  • 2.5 ml. subcutaneously in loose fold of skin at post axillary region
  • Cattle and Buffaloes
  • 5 ml. subcutaneously on side of the neck
  • Under field conditions, booster dose after 15 days from 1st vaccination is essential. The vaccine may be given once in a year, in the subsequent years.
  • Reactions:-

  • Normally no reactions are noticed except local tissue reactions that should subside soon within few days.
  • Immunity:-

  • Immunity develops fully after 21 days from the 1st injection and remains for one year.
  • Precautions:-

    • The bottle should be shaken well before use.
    • Keep the bottle away from direct sunlight.
    • Gently massage the site of inoculation, after administration of the vaccine.
    • The bottle opened once should be utilised fully on the same day.
    • Sterile syringes and needles should be used.
    • Use of antihistaminics or similar drugs is advised in case of any generalised reaction noticed after vaccination.
    • The separate needle should be used for drawal of vaccine from vial and inoculation.
    • Vaccine vials showing cracks or damaged stoppers should not be used.

Storage:-

  • The vaccine may be stored between 40 C to 80 C. The vaccine can be stored for three years at this temperature. The vaccine may be stored at 220 C to 250 C for a period of six months.Store away from light, in a cool dark place.
  • Packing:-

  • 250 ml. in polypropylene bottle containing 50 doses.
